How can
I conduct a Food Drive? |
|
|
|
|
|
A food drive is an organized effort
to gather food in your organization, company, school or
community. Without the generosity of Arizona citizens we would
not be able to meet the increasing demands among Arizona’s
hungry. Any individual or organization can conduct a food drive,
and the Northern Arizona Food Bank encourages and welcomes your
help in collecting food for Arizona’s needy. Food drives can
range in size and duration. |
|
|
|
|
| Some well known food drives are the
City and Rural Letter Carriers, Boy Scouts’, Burning
Desire, Feinstein Challenge, City of Flagstaff, and the Arizona Cardinals’. In addition to these drives, the Northern Arizona Food Bank greatly benefits from school, business, church and other organizational food
drives. The important thing to remember is that no food drive is too small.... Every little bit counts. |

Here are some important points to consider
if you decide to organize a food drive: |
|
|
| 1) Conducting a successful food drive requires some organization on your part. It may be helpful to establish a committee to determine the type, theme, dates and duration of your drive. A food drive is most effective if it is held during a one to three week period. |
| 2) Select your drive leaders based on their available time, creativity, leadership skills, and rapport with others. |
| 3) Establish a goal for your drive. |
| 4) Assign and oversee support functions: a) distributing of materials, b) publicity, c) handling and counting of food, d) coordinating transportation of food. |
| 5) Arrange for a Food Bank representative to come to your organization to make a
presentation, and receive a Food Drive Kit. |
| 6) Place collection containers in central areas that are clearly marked and easily accessible to participants. Cardboard boxes or plastic food drive barrels work best and provide an excellent opportunity to personalize the food drive with office, school and church decorations. |
|
| 7) Keep
participants updated on the progress of the drive. |
|
| 8) If possible, display the food that has been received (within the organization conducting the food drive.) |
| 9) Deliver
collected food to the Northern Arizona Food Bank, 3805 E.
Huntington, Flagstaff, AZ 86004. Deliveries can be made
during our normal
office hours. However, if you
need to have your food picked up, please call (928) 526-2211
to make arrangements. |
